Professional year programme in Australia bridges the gap for a graduate fresh out of College/University between the study and full time employment. It prepares the individual for the job, thus acting as a job ready programme. The individual learns the basic practical and technical skills necessary to cope up with the competitive Australian work environment. Successful completion of PYP also gives the individual 5 additional points whilst proceeding for the Australian Permanent residency. PYP does not guarantee the individual with a job but rather prepares them for seeking good employment opportunities. PYP is available for different fields such as Engineering, Accounting, IT etc. The programmes usually run for 44-52 week period. To enrol for a PYP, the candidate must have completed at least 2 years of tertiary education in Australia in the relevant field. The candidate must hold an Australian Visa which allows full working and study rights, like Skilled Graduate Visa (485) or a bridging visa to graduate Visa.

Recognition of prior learning helps the people who have gathered degree related skills and knowledge through informal study or through practical and experimental means to seek higher education by getting their skills certified. Credits can be given to you on the basis of your skill assessment. RPL is a great way for candidates to get some recognition in their informal skills learned informally. RPL is an assessment of a given individual’s skills and knowledge gained outside a classroom environment through volunteer work, training, paid or unpaid work etc. It is the validation of the claim made by the applicant for competency against a certain set of learning outcomes or standards.
It is a simple and a straight forward process of assessing someone’s skills and knowledge, regardless of how and where the skills were learned.
